Rukungiri Gender and Development Association (RUGADA) was established
in 1994. It is a registered rural-based Non-Government Organisation,
non-profit making, non political charitable organisation with
the mission to contribute to the improvement of the status of
the less advantaged people. It is registered with the National
Association of Women Organisations of Uganda (NAWOU). It is affiliated
to several non-governmental organisations in Uganda. It is involved
in the implementation of several programs in Rukungiri District
and has been identified as a development partner in the 5-year
development plan of Rukungiri District.
Objectives
of
RUGADA

To promote gender in the social, economic, and political
spheres

To promote savings and credit among the women and men
and establishing a micro-credit scheme in the area
- To
network with Community Based Organisations and other
NGO's
- To
create awareness on communities' own understanding of
their rights through legal education, para-legal training
and establishment of a legal aid clinic
- To
promote environmental protection through bio-diversity
conservation
- To
promote health through advocating for improved hygiene,
sanitation, nutritional status and HIV / AIDS in the
district
- To
carry out research on issues of development within the
district
- To
promote adult functional literacy in the District
- To
promote the welfare of orphans, widows and vulnerable
people.
